Outreach

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation seeks to bring comfort and hope to families of children diagnosed with cancer in the Santa Clarita and surrounding valleys.  We are here to help.  Our programs are currently providing services to over 260 local families including:

• Financial assistance
• Grocery assistance
• Gasoline assistance
• Information and referrals
• Family entertainment activities
• Monthly support groups
• Counseling and tutoring
• Educational resources

The Foundation organizes fun family activities throughout the year.  Each year annual events have included a night at Mountasia Family Fun Center, bowling and pizza party at Valencia Lanes, Halloween party at Lombardi Ranch, a barbecue and pool party, and various sports and entertainment events.

The Outreach Program works with area hospitals by providing Kare Kits to newly diagnosed patients and their families.  The Kare Kits include practical supplies needed for a hospital stay: grocery, gas and phone cards, a special blanket for the patient and a notebook of resources for the parents.  Hospitals working with the Foundation include Kaiser Woodland Hills, Kaiser Sunset, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and the UCLA clinics at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and Mattel Children’s Hospital.

The Foundation hosts two monthly support meetings.  Wings of Hope is a parent, patient and sibling support group in which parents meet to discuss childhood cancer related issues.  Hope Hereafter is a support group for parents and families who have lost a child to cancer.  A separate group for patients and siblings meets at the same time as both adult groups.  A licensed counselor who specializes in child and family therapy facilitates the children's group.
